Nocturne
04:48
|

The body lay beside me
The stillness and the dark
The lonely hours
I've lost all fear
Every breath wakes me
Under the skin
Beyond the walls
If I were a god
It wouldn't be so hard
You'd all be gone
When my eyes opened
The body lay beside me
The thought of what's to come
And what's been done
I'm lost in fear
Every breath shakes me
The body starts to rise
She turns to me and smiles
The morning's breaking

The Last Time I Left
03:55
|
|||
They took from what I had to say
Two or three words
The rest drifted away
Had nothing to cling to
I had to avert my gaze
It started to look like the end of days
The night had a way of pulling me down
There seemed no point
In making myself heard
The last time I left you
You laughed through your tears
I fed my anxiety
Put on more years
Told me to never be controlled
By my fears
The last time I left you
Now I can't see your face
We can't even feel our age
Without someone telling us to count the days
You're too old for youth
And you're too young to be a sage
Think of it like we're depending on
Something that always will end up wrong
For now it's all gnashing of teeth
And misplaced rage
There seemed no point
In keeping things going
The last time I left you said:
"Do what you can do
The worst isn't over, but you'll see it through
Not everything that I say will turn out to be true"
The last time I left you
Now I can't hear your voice
The last time I left you
Now I can't see your face
The last time I left you
I can't remember the place
The last time I left you

Boise Cascade

Boise Cascade
Drifted through
Taking two for safety
How could we know
How much would change?
The times are different
But the feeling's the same
Boise Cascade
Clouds are made
Bills are paid
And I've been lost
In a fog
I can't see
More than two feet in front of me
It was a time when nothing seemed to fade
Green and white on display
I'm in a daze
I count the days
Since you went away
And I long
For it all
Old and new
The darkest cloud
And the clearest blue

Amber Rays

AMBER RAYS
There are worlds that you don't see
The secret worlds under lock and key
Spinning in the rooms in buildings that you pass
Time is trapped between the walls
From Rumford Point to Rumford Falls
And it tears your heart
Like it was filled with broken glass
I've lived through a lot of smoke and haze
Still I see those amber rays
In a Golden Book reality
Where all the field mice are smiling
But rust begets rust
Trust is hard to come by
No one really wants to feel a thing
I'm living in someone else's time
The paper's yellowed
And the words still rhymed
He who sits on the giant rock is king
The forest without the trees
Turned into fields of misery
Time is trapped in the forty winds
I've lived through a lot of doubt and pain
I can see the amber rays
And the storm clouds in the distance
Only made a better picture
NOW I'M A MAN
Now I'm a man
Night closes all around me
I do my best
Though the violent silence surrounds me
Trying to stand tall
Tall enough to be called a man
Too many thoughts
Too little action
Too many words
Not enough motion
Always on the ball
But I'm stuck between the walls
I wonder if I am
Something resembling a man
LOOKING OUT AT OTHER FACES
Looking out at other faces
While I stay safe inside my own
Some made for hope
Some made for comfort
Others made of stone
Inside are many worlds revolving
As dark as thoughts between the bright
Inside the worlds are hidden places
Where darkness drips into the light
Looking out at other faces
Into the windows of the soul
When the curtains are all drawn
The secrets left behind will never be told
I feel safe inside dimensions
It seemed like danger was confined
Too much investigation
Wonder what it's like on the world outside
Looking out at other faces
And getting shadows in return
Trying to occupy all spaces
Trying to learn
Looking out at other faces
Into the windows of the soul
